Small kitchens
renovated to feel bigger.

Most London kitchens are small — galley kitchens in Victorian conversions, compact L-shapes in mansion flats, studio kitchenettes. We renovate them to make every centimetre work: tall units, integrated appliances, clever corners, better light and the right worktop.

The honest answer

What a small kitchen renovation
really costs in London.

A small kitchen renovation in London costs between £5,000 and £13,000 + VAT supplied and fitted — a studio kitchenette at the lower end, a galley or compact L-shape with quartz and integrated appliances at the top. Fitting only, if you've bought the kitchen, is £2,500–£4,500.

Small kitchens aren't proportionally cheaper: the plumbing, electrics, extraction, tiling and decoration cost much the same as a bigger kitchen, and awkward spaces need more careful design and cutting. Where the saving comes is in fewer units and less worktop — and in choosing a supplier like Howdens or IKEA whose ranges suit tight spaces.

Tom Harvey Contractors provides free site visits and itemised written quotes within 48 hours, and we'll sketch the layout with you to make the most of the space before anything is ordered.

Common questions

Your questions
answered.

A studio kitchenette supplied and fitted costs £5,000–£8,000 + VAT. A galley kitchen £6,000–£11,000. A compact L-shape with integrated appliances and quartz £7,000–£13,000. Fitting only, if you've bought the kitchen, is £2,500–£4,500. These include strip-out, plumbing, electrics, tiling and decoration.
Because most of the cost is in the trades — plumbing, electrics, extraction, plastering, tiling, decoration — and those don't shrink with the room. You save on units, worktop and appliances, but a small kitchen still typically costs £6,000–£11,000 done properly.
Go tall — full-height larders and appliance housings use the wall above eye level. Use drawers instead of cupboards in base units, corner pull-outs, slimline 45cm dishwashers, and integrated appliances so you lose no worktop. We'll draw the layout with you.
Howdens and IKEA both have compact ranges with 30cm, 40cm and 50cm units, slimline appliances and tall larders. IKEA's METOD is especially flexible for awkward spaces. We fit both and will recommend based on the room.
Usually — a slimline 45cm dishwasher and an integrated washer-dryer take one base unit each. If space is really tight, a washer-dryer in a hall cupboard or bathroom is sometimes the better solution; we'll look at the options.
A studio kitchenette 4–6 working days; a galley or compact kitchen 6–10 days. Quartz worktops add a week for templating. You'll be without a kitchen for most of it.
Often, yes — removing a non-structural wall or creating a hatch or opening transforms a galley kitchen in a Victorian conversion. Structural walls need a steel and a structural engineer's calculation, which we can arrange. We'll advise at the site visit.
A light quartz or laminate makes a small kitchen feel bigger and is easy to keep clean. Quartz is worth it in a small kitchen because the quantity is low — often £1,200–£2,000 templated and fitted.
